The Ministry of Trade is implementing new regulations in favor of consumers in the "Price Label Regulation"

In a statement made by the Ministry of Trade , it was reminded that matters regarding the price tags, tariffs, and price lists of goods and services offered for retail sale are regulated in Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection and the Price Tag Regulation, and the statement was made, "The Regulation, whose main purpose is to "regulate the form, content, and use of labels, tariffs, and price lists of goods and services offered for retail sale, as well as the procedures and principles regarding discounted sales," is important in terms of "protecting the economic interests" and "informing consumers accurately and completely." It was emphasized that the need to amend the Price Tag Regulation has arisen considering the increasing consumer grievances and the needs of the sector, and the following was stated:
Menus and price lists can also be displayed to consumers via QR codes at tables.
According to the provisions of the draft Regulation, which is open for comment, the seller will be required to weigh the packaged weights of the products sold in the presence of the consumer. Based on the principle of "Accuracy in Measurement and Weight," an Ahi tradition, the seller will explicitly state that the tare weight, i.e., the reduction of the packaged weight, will be required when weighing the products offered for sale at the consumer's request. This will ensure that consumers pay for the net amount of the products they purchase, thus protecting their economic interests. Menus and price lists will also be displayed to consumers via QR codes on tables in establishments that offer food and beverage services.

In addition to the physical menu and price lists displayed on tables and in front of doors, which began on January 1, 2024, in restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and similar establishments offering food and beverage services, the company has now made it possible to access these menus using QR codes on desktops, thus providing convenience for both consumers and businesses. Establishments offering food and beverage services, whose criteria are determined by the Ministry of Trade, will be able to transfer their price lists to the system established by the Ministry of Trade. To enable consumers to easily compare prices for services offered by establishments such as restaurants, cafes, and the like, the aim is to establish a system that will publish price lists online. In addition to price tags, sellers of products such as books and magazines are also being provided with the convenience of using electronic devices.

By introducing electronic devices such as "see price" along with price tags for businesses selling books, magazines, and newspapers, the sector is adapting to evolving technology while also ensuring accurate and complete information for consumers. The Ministry of Trade, operating with a producer- and consumer-focused approach, will continue to implement new regulations for informational and enforcement purposes. After consulting with relevant organizations regarding the Price Tag Regulation, the necessary final assessments will be made expeditiously, and the relevant Regulation will be submitted for official approval .
